Weinviertel and its "Cellar Lanes"

Printer-friendly version

The cellar lanes are typical to the Weinviertel region. These are narrow passes, in which the local winegrowers have their wine cellars and their press houses.

These houses have no heating and are often very small. Today the cellar lanes are not used for the wine-making anymore. Some are renovated in a historical way, some are also interpreted in a new way or are renovated modern.

Mailberg offers four cellar lanes. The cellar lane ‘Zipf’ is under a preservation order because of its original buildings. It consists of 21 wine cellars and is one of the most beautiful cellar lanes of Lower Austria.
