The Souvereign Order of Malta at the castle Mailberg
The 'Souvereign Order of Malta' emerged from a hospital brotherhood in Jerusalem around 1048.
Its the mission of the Order to spread the honour of God in accordance with the beliefs of Christian charity and brotherly love and the old tradition through sanctification of its members and strong commitment. The aims and goals of the Order are summed up in the guiding principle “Tuitio fidei et obsequium pauperum“ – “Maintenance of belief and help for those in need”.
Apart from the commandery in Mailberg the Order owns eight other churches in Austria. Furthermore, the main priory of Austria founded seven charitable organisations, where volunteers work together with members of the Order.
